The WordPress documentation team hosts its first online contributor day, October 25, 2022

The WordPress documentation team will host an online Contributor Day on October 25, 2022, ahead of the expected release of WordPress 6.1 the following week. Milana Cap, who has volunteered with the documentation team for years and is currently sponsored by XWP, announced the event this week.

“The primary goal is to catch up on a lot of the tasks in the team backlog, but it's also an opportunity for all shareholders to meet and collaborate in real time and help prepare all new shareholders who need any kind of help,” Kapp said.

The virtual event will be a first for the documentation team but follows in the footsteps of other contributor teams, including the Polyglots and Accessibility teams, who have hosted highly successful global events that include contribution and qualification. These types of virtual gatherings help contributors connect and put names on faces

New contributors are encouraged to attend, even if only for a short period of time to see what the notarial contribution is. Cap asked everyone planning to attend to leave their names on the GitHub issue dedicated to Contributor Day.

Outlines the steps for initiating a contribution and highlights the list of tickets awaiting content review for older documentation as well as the newer block editor and end-user documentation tickets. For example, there is a project board specifically for high priority tickets remaining for 6.1.

The event documentation team will begin on Tuesday, October 25, 2022 at 06:00 AM EST and will last for 10 hours. Attendees can join via Zoom and are not required to stay for any length of time.
